Thank you for visiting my site. Let me share a few things about myself. I graduated from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver with a Bachelor of Education degree, majoring in art. I was deeply influenced by the work of Emily Carr, Tom Thompson and Lawren Harris, sharing their love of trees and the outdoors. During university, I experimented with a variety of mediums but focused mainly on oil painting and ink drawing. After graduation I worked as an elementary school teacher, integrating art into the curriculum wherever possible. Now retired, I have rekindled my love of painting.
I enjoy the medium of acrylic because it dries quickly, can be built up to create texture and retains its brightness over time. I use nature as an inspiration for my work, incorporating light and colour into all of my paintings. One of my favourite themes has been "boats". With a pallet of blues and greens, I have experimented with various approaches to water. My hope is that the viewer will feel the wind, waves or gentle stillness as they get drawn into experiencing each painting. Recently I I have returned to painting landscapes, in particular, scenes from golf courses with all those lovely shades of green, blue and ochre. I have also focused on painting trees with their rough trunks and twisted, slender branches, each one unique and beautiful in design.
Aside from art, I enjoy outdoor sports, music, reading and spending time with my family, especially my 8 grandchildren. I currently reside in West Kelowna with my husband. I am an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and a member of the West Kelowna Artists.
